Activating your Verizon phone can be done in a few different ways, depending on whether you’re using a new device, switching devices, or bringing your own. Follow one of the methods below to complete activation.
Method 1: Activate a New iPhone
Step 1: Power on your new iPhone
The power button is located on the right side. Once the Apple logo appears, you’ll be taken to the Activation screen.
Step 2: Confirm your phone number
Check if the displayed number is correct. If it’s not, contact Verizon support.
Step 3: Tap Next
Step 4: Enter the Verizon billing account password
You may also be able to use the last four digits of the Social Security number associated with the account.
Step 5: Tap Next
Step 6: Wait for your iPhone to activate
If a SIM card error occurs, ensure that the correct SIM card is inserted.
Step 7: Proceed with iPhone setup
Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your preferences.

Method 2: Activate a New or Used Verizon Device
Step 1: Power on your new device
If you’re using a used device, make sure to insert your own SIM card first.
Step 2: Select a Language
Step 3: Tap Next
This button appears in the lower right corner.
Step 4: Tap Activate Now
This may also appear as Next. Activation may begin automatically, or you may be prompted to enter Verizon account information.
Step 5: Power off your old Verizon device
This allows Verizon to automatically deactivate it. Wait several seconds for full deactivation.
Step 6: Enter Verizon billing account password (if prompted)
You may also use the last four digits of the associated Social Security number.
Step 7: Complete initial device setup
Set up services or tap Skip to do it later. Your phone is now activated and ready to use.
Method 3: Activate a Device Online
Step 1: Ensure your device is compatible
Go to Verizon BYOD compatibility check to verify if your device will work on Verizon’s network.
Step 2: Visit the Verizon device activation page
Navigate to https://www.verizonwireless.com/vzw/browse/devicechange/home.jsp. Log in with your Verizon credentials if prompted.
Step 3: Click Activate a device on an existing line
Step 4: Select the line to activate the device on
Step 5: Select Yes or No
Choose Yes if the device was previously used on your account. Otherwise, choose No.
Step 6: Enter your Device ID (if No)
Once the device is confirmed compatible, you can continue.
Step 7: Select another phone on your account
Verizon will send a verification code to this number.
Step 8: Click Text Me the Code
Step 9: Enter the code
Input the authorization code from the text into the required field.
Step 10: Click Confirm
Confirm SIM compatibility. If you don’t have a SIM card, you’ll need to purchase one.
Step 11: Enter your SIM ID number
Click on “Finding Your SIM Card and SIM ID” for instructions.
Step 12: Click Check ID
Step 13: Select an equipment protection option (if prompted)
Step 14: Click Confirm
Step 15: Select a compatible service plan (if prompted)
Step 16: Click Confirm Feature & Plan Changes
Your activation is now complete.
Method 4: Activate a Device via Customer Support
Step 1: Purchase a Verizon SIM card (if needed)
You can order one online, by phone, or at a Verizon store.
Step 2: Get your device’s IMEI number
Dial *#06# on most phones to retrieve it. You may need it during activation.
Step 3: Call Verizon Customer Service
Dial (800) 837-4966. Provide your IMEI and verify account ownership to activate your phone.
Step 4: Visit a Verizon store
Bring your SIM card or let them know you need one. A representative can activate your device in-store.
With these methods, you can activate a Verizon phone whether it’s brand new, used, or one you’re bringing from another carrier.
